overview of the federal states

Carinthia

In 2019, as part of the Carinthian Game Damage Fund Act-K-WSchFG the Carinthian Game Damage Fund furnished.

Financial support is primarily provided for damage caused directly. In addition to damage to beehives, colonies and beehives, damage to killed or injured livestock is also compensated within the framework of the Carinthian Game Damage Fund. In addition, support is provided for missing livestock if it can be proven that there were attacks on the alpine pasture in question or on the adjacent pasture during the alpine season in question. Regardless of compensation for direct damage, the fund also provides for the provision of support in particularly worthy cases, if the fund's resources are sufficient for this, even in deviation from the guidelines by way of goodwill.

If the annual funds available in the fund are sufficient to cover all damage, compensation for the damage caused by the large predator can be made in accordance with the guidelines. A proportional reduction in the amount of support will only take place if the annual funds available in the fund are insufficient.

General information

Tyrol

Since 2012, the state of Tyrol has had a guideline for compensation payments for damage caused by large predators. Currently, direct and indirect damage caused by large predators is compensated by the state of Tyrol; previously, direct damage caused by a predator was reimbursed by the insurance of the Tyrolean Hunters' Association.

Similar to Salzburg, there are also goodwill arrangements in Tyrol: The state of Tyrol pays compensation in cases where no direct proof can be provided, but the attack was very likely caused by a large predator. This probability is assessed based on the damage or attack assessment and all other available data.

Tyrol also applies standardized cost rates for compensation. They are based on auction and market prices that are updated annually. Since 2019, additional feed costs incurred in the event of premature cattle drives have been compensated if attacks occur repeatedly in some areas. Support is also available for necessary animal rescues and veterinary costs. The processing and payment of compensation payments is carried out by the state of Tyrol.
