Fence<\/h3>\n

With an electric fence that\u00a0the criteria of a herd protection fence<\/a>\u00a0If the requirements are met, grazing animals can be securely fenced in to protect them from attacks. This is a simple and effective option when preparing for the cattle drive up to the mountain pastures \u2013 pre-grazing \u2013 or after the cattle drive down to the valley, or on smaller lower alpine pastures. However, regular inspection and maintenance of the fence must not be neglected.<\/p>\n

Mobile pasture fence nets can be used to set up pens for sheep to rest in or spend the night, which, if properly constructed, have a good wolf-repellent effect. The basic requirement for a herd protection fence is a constant power supply of at least 3500 volts at any time and anywhere on the fence (see the \u00d6Z brochure with standards for technical herd protection).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\"Nachtpferch_1200x900__7117341\"\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t

Predators hunt primarily at night. Housing grazing animals in a pen is a very good way of protecting them overnight. To ensure animal health, in terms of parasite pressure and hoof health, the pen's location should be changed after two nights at the latest, depending on the condition of the soil and plants. The animals must learn to go into the pen in the evening and not leave it again until the morning. The same applies to an existing alpine stable, which offers a high level of protection if built accordingly.<\/p>\n

For sheep, depending on the location conditions (soil, slope, feed supply), a guideline of around 2.5 to 3m\u00b2 per ewe can be assumed. A shepherd brings many advantages to the herd and ensures a safe summer on the alpine pastures. If predators are constantly present in the area, in addition to herding, the use of\u00a0livestock guardian dogs<\/a>\u00a0recommended. In the event of an immediate attack by wolves, livestock guardian dogs are also ready to defend their livestock.
